The Yale School of Engineering & Applied Science presents the 2011 Victor M. Tyler Distinguished Lectureship in Engineering with Eric Fossum, Professor of Engineering in Dartmouth’s Thayer School and a consultant to Samsung Electronics’ Semiconductor R&D Center. Dr. Fossum, who earned a PhD in electrical engineering from Yale in 1984, is one of the world’s leading solid-state image sensor device physicists, best known for inventing the CMOS image sensor. His “camera-on-a-chip” technology is used in nearly all camera phones and webcams, digital-still cameras, high-speed motion capture cameras, automotive cameras, dental x-ray cameras, and swallowable pill cameras. An entrepreneur as well as inventor, Fossum’s transfer of his own IP portfolio to industry has yielded one of Caltech’s greatest licensing revenue streams, and he has served as CEO of two successful high-tech companies. His work was included on Reuters’ list of “Baby Boomer Inventions that Changed the World,” and Forbes calls him an inventor who has “changed your life.” Video Rating: 0 / 5

Samsung MV800 Camera Will Make You Flip Out!!! Remember Samsung’s DualView compact digital cameras that featured miniature LCD panels embedded in the front of the camera for taking accurate self-portrait shots? Today, Samsung has taken that philosophy to the next level with the introduction of the MV800. The Samsung MV800 is equipped with a 3.0″ touch-screen Flip-out LCD display. However, this is not your typical horizontally revolving LCD–the Samsung MV800′s LCD flips up vertically a full 180 degrees to give shooters a 3-inch LCD view right above the lens for the ultimate self portraits. The Samsung MV800 will bring on a 16-megapixel 1/2.3-inch CCD sensor, 26mm wide 5x optical zoom Schneider-KREUZNACH lens and offer full touchscreen LCD operation. 720p HD video recording in the MPEG-4 format is noted in the release, and I assume it will be 30fps. Fun-filled features riddle the MV800, starting with Live Panorama, which enables the shooter to preview the shot For more tech goodness, check us out at: http:///www.technobuffalo.com Follow Us on Twitter: www.twitter.com Like Us on Facebook: www.facebook.com Check Us Out on Google + bit.ly

Nintendo released the Game Boy Camera and the Game Boy Printer in 1998. The Camera took small, grainy digital photos in an era before the proliferation of digital cameras and camera phones. Although the photos were limited to the Game Boy’s 4 shades of gray, the Camera’s software allowed users to customize them with doodles, stamps, frames, and even make animations and use their own faces in minigames. The photos could also be printed out onto stickers using the thermal Printer and a Game Link cable (the Printer was sold separately from the Camera, but included paper and a Game Link). A few other games were also compatible with the Printer, most notably The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. A followup to the Camera was planned for the Game Boy Advance, but never released. Nintendo utilized some aspects of the Camera software for the Nintendo DSi, and although the DSi’s camera app features new options, it is not nearly as robust as the original Game Boy Camera. This set is outmoded these days, and not very useful on a functional level, but I still find them to be fun and kitschy, and because they are inexpensive and easy to come by on eBay, I have to wholeheartedly recommend them to collectors and retro gamers. The Panasonic GF series has taken an interesting change of direction ever since the brilliant GF1 was first announced. With the GF2 and GF3 losing admirers of the range thanks to them losing key features. But now the GX1 is here and it’s promising to be the successor to the GF1. Is it any good though?
